sofa stamp

sooo. I guess I live under a rock and maybe so does my husband.
We are very new to military life. He is straight out of AIT basically. I got here in May 2016, Still haven't gotten a sofa stamp. I heard about it but no one expressed to me fully why I need to get it.

90 days within arrival, way past that. I am stressing out beyond belief. Has anyone gone though this? I need some reassurance that it'll be okay! We are going to try and go to passport office tomorrow but I am so nervous I want to know what I am going to be walking into. Please no one make fun of me.
thank you so much

It can be very stressful.  When my family arrived in the KMC, we had no military experience at all.  None. Zero. Zilch.  The sponsor we had was as useful as boobs on a bull.

Don't let the SOFA stamp mess with your head.  If you have an official passport, you already have a SOFA stamp.  If you have a tourist passport, you need to get a SOFA card.

Here is some info for you.  https://www.everythingkmc.com/13842/get-your-blue-sofa-card/
Since the post is kind of old, double check the hours and location by calling before you go anywhere.

No fee passports and "red" passports still need a SOFA card or stamp. Normally it's automatic, but I would not say that if you have one you already have a SOFA stamp/card.

Still can't travel with the official/no fee passport unless it is official travel.  So, having the SOFA card along with a travel passport is still a must for pleasure travel.  I am assuming this has not changed.

I think that's what I'm saying.

Can I just point out that I've been here since May,  have traveled all over the place and have a job all without a sofa stamp.  I've even flown to the states and back.

That is all well and good, right up to the point where it isn't.  I was stopped at the airport using my travel passport, and was asked why I am traveling in/out of the country so much.  If not for my SOFA card, I would have been screwed.  It is your risk to not have the SOFA card.
