PCSing back to the states (Cell phone Contract question)

We are PCSing back to the states in June 2015. We have a cell phone from KMCC on Ramstein Air Base with Telekom. We had it for 2-years then upgraded the phone in Jul 2014.

I have received my orders. I went to the KMCC and let them know that I will be PCSing in June 15 (5 months) and asked is there anything I need to do in order to cancel the contract, get out of the contract or what have you by that time. They told me, that I do not have to do anything because my contract will be up in July.

I am skeptical...Does that sound correct? Any additional information needed, please let me know. Thanks.

Go speak to the same person, again. Get the person's name. Get it in writing.

No way! Those contacts renew automatically unless you terminate usually no later than 3 months before the end. Read your contact, all the details are there. Have the person print out your contract and highlight the dates and the part where you don't need to anything.

Thanks everyone! I figured the same thing. I will ensure to go over and be a bit more forceful or should I say persistent. I will let you know...

Please do let us know. Thanks.

I went over to the KMCC. I have to submit a copy of my orders 100 days prior to my departure. If you do not have you orders at that time, a memorandum from your commander will suffice until you get your orders.

You will get charge for 3 more months after you submit a copy of you orders or memorandum. I PCS Jun 23, so by March 13 (100 days), I will submit my orders in order for service to be terminated in Jun.

That's sounds more accurate...

I was just thinking the other day that it might be nice to compile a list (in a new thread) about what sort of things we need to terminate before we leave and what is generally the lead time on them.

Cell phone
Internet
Home Phone
TV service
Utilities

Go for it. Sounds like a great idea!

I hope you have better luck than I did with Comcast here in the states.

We parted company after disagreeing about the quality of my connection and the costs associated with it and THEY make my final bill and I paid it.

2 months later I get a letter from a collection agency sayin I owe them 20 something more dollars.

I called them and explained what transpired and they did not care, they told me to pay up or continue to be hounded by them ...

I'd let them try to collect. A final bill is just that. Final.

I remember this post, lol. I can't believe I am returning as a DoD Civilian next week. This site is 100 times more useful and user friendly. I will be looking at other options for cell phones this time around. See ya soon!
