Where to get a German Shepherd?

Hey all! My husband and I are considering getting a German Shepherd, does any one know where we could find a younger (but not an 8 week old puppy) German Shepherd for sale? We don't know of any breeders around the KMC area or if there is a GSD rescue or anything. We are going to be in Germany a few more months before PCSing to SHAPE and are looking for a good family companion which I can run with and participate in Schutzhund activities. Not looking for any special show dog/bloodlines, just healthy, good personality, and clear hip/shoulder x-rays. If anyone can advise us where we could look for such a dog, we would greatly appreciate it!!! I'm a previous GSD owner. Thanks!

In Germany it's just a Shepherd.

This company is a proud sponsor of EverythingKMC.

Pepper - I've been wanting a German Shepherd (I can call it that because I am not in Germany right now) since I was a kid. I nearly got one on my last trip to Germany this past November. Maybe I'll do it on my next trip in May (Bergman / Jesus_Dude pay attention because I want those beers :beerchug.

I have a good friend who will answer your question. Give him until tomorrow, please. He's what I would call a dog lover.

Might be kinda hard at this late stage of your assignment. Germans don't really want to sell to Amis, especially in the surrounding US communities. That's not to say they won't but it might be a little more difficult as a "regular" Ami in the area. Americans don't have good reputations amongst the locals when it comes to taking care of dogs. And some Germans are more passionate about their dogs than their kids.

No GSD rescue type organisations in the area I'm aware of. There are other breeds rescue groups I'm aware of but they rescue from outside of Germany...think Hungary, Italy, Spain and Turkey to name a few. You might have better luck buying a GSD outside of Germany in say Belgium or the Netherlands. Is that a possibility?

Here is link to the KMC Pet Adoption page. Someone there may be able to help you in finding a seller or someone wanting to re-home a GSD, which is not too often the case in my experience.

In Germany I believe it's called a Schaeferhund and not a Shepherd. ;)

Try one of the clubs for more info. There are two in Erfenbach and one in Kaiserslautern. I think I even remember a training area in Queidersbach/Linden over by the "grillplatz". Just do a search for schaeferhund verein kaiserslautern.

Is it something you can share with everyone?  I've been asked a few times about where to get a GSD.  If not, thanks for taking care of sizital.

I found this on facebook..... 20 min from Ramstein

German Shepherd Puppies. Full Blooded! Same Bloodline!1.250 €Neunkirchen am Potzberg
here the link to the facebook-group
.... then the folks are right... if you get the dog and you have to look it most of day, cause you are single or both working...   you sure get trouble with the german dog-owning neighbourhood.... pls check this point, to avoid frustration....
