Housing question

Just got here Friday, going to be looking for houses but I'm not feeling too lucky with what I have seen so far on the ads and from what I have heard. I have 2 dobies and a cat, no kids. I have seen quite a bit of homes on the KA site that say to call GI billpay services. Is this a realtor? I really don't want to deal with a realtor just yet.

GI billpay services is not a realtor. You can tell who the realtors are by the word "Immobilien."

Have you been using AHRN? The site is kind of useless, but it is better than nothing.

House hunting here is about as much fun as having a colonoscopy!

oh ok good lol. I have looked at AHRN but am using KA more. Haven't officially made appts yet because I haven't had my housing brief, that is tomorrow (plus don't have a car yet either). I am already stressing about the housing situation here, its really crazy.

If you find a house that you like, DO NOT hesitate. If you like it, and you don't sign the lease on the spot, that house will not be available ten minutes later. No kidding!

The way housing is here, you have to pull the trigger as soon as you find something you like. If you think you will find something better, you are risking losing the house you are looking at, and risking not finding something better.

This does not mean you should sign a lease for something you don't like. It just means that if you do like a house, you should take it.

Good luck!

That'll be hit and miss. My landlord doesn't speak English very well, but enough to understand what he wants to say. My landlord's son speaks English well enough that we can communicate without a problem.

I posted an Ad on www.ramsteinyardsales.com saying I needed a house near Ramstein that allowed a dog and a day later I had a house. Also try the Ramstein Facebook page. I received 3-4 replies on each within a couple hours. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box.

This site has many links to Realtors, both as site advertisers and Realtor websites. You just have to call as many Realtors as you can. Call 10 Realtors and 1 or 2 will call you back. Realtors in Germany, as per my experience, are not at all good business people. They have no inventory to speak of, do very little work, and charge a fortune. If you can get a house without a Realtor, you save yourself a bundle.

Good advice, Dave, to use RYS and FB.

You could be like us. We found a house, but it is a brand new house. We had Housing come out and do the inpection and now we are waiting on them to finish the contract. It has been a week now and the contract still is not done. Who knows how long it will be before FMO can deliver anything???? We can't even do anything with them until we get the contract. It is a very aggrevating process here.
