thought we had a house

so we thought we had a house, but we have to go talk to housing now. We went to do the walkthrough with the Landlord, who thought the house was acceptable...it's FILTHY!!! He thinks he can clean it in a day, but the ENTIRE house needs to be repainted, it's dirty and disgusting...we have to go talk to housing this morning and talk to them about us getting out of the contract, we have pictures to prove how disgusting it is. The previous tenants were pigs!! They are army, and I have a half of mind to find his commander and let his commander know the condition they left the house. Food in the pantry, dog poop in the yard, dog snot on the windows, showers were gross, mirrors are gross, oven and stove are nearly uncleanable, and they have a 4 month old baby......now I get to try to house hunt AGAIN, and try to get an extension to stay in TLF for 30 more days!! this is horrible.

Anyone know of a house, 4 bedrooms, basement or studio, 2 baths, yard, 1400 euros a month.

We're in the same boat, Lindsey. I have been looking for a house as well.

What I find is unresponsive real estate brokers, landlords who think their poop smells like flowers, and prices that only the mafia could get away with.

It is very frustrating here when it comes to finding a house.

Frankly, it is our own fault. As Americans with a housing allowance, we allow the local economy to jack up prices beyond reality. If the money was not being reimbursed, a LOT of people would be living in smaller homes, or apartments, instead.

But, I digress.

Finding a house here requires a lot of patience and handfuls of acetylsalicylic acid!

You didn't go into the house before you signed the contract? Sorry to hear that happened. Can't believe how some people live. Hope you find a replacement soon

We did go into the house before signing the contract. However, the people living there were moving out, and in that process...so it was messy. But they had furniture in the house, pictures on the wall, you have to expect that they are going to clean...as they SHOULD. but they didnt clean, and the ENTIRE house needs to be painted. We knew the kitchen wasnt great, but we could have dealt with that....the disgusting condition they left it in, from probably an entire year of NOT EVER cleaning, is just beyond gross!! I can only look and see that the rooms are decent sized, and there isnt mold growing out of the walls....but they were still in the house and using the house, and some people arent as clean as others...but they should have cleaned it, and the landlord shouldnt have let them out without cleaning it...and he shouldnt have thought that we
would be ok with how it was!

we waisted 2 weeks that we could have kept looking for a house, because we thought we had one....that was TWO weeks ago, and they couldnt move out and CLEAN in that timeframe?? it's gross...and the landlord should have been in there before hand to get a look at the walls and tell them they need to either repaint or hire someone to do it.
The fact the landlord thought it was ok is what is disturbing.

Hope housing office is helping you get out of the contract. Sounds like the classic local taking advantage. Hope u find another one soon!!

yes, I took pictures, and the housing office says its not good....so they let us out of the contract. they told the landlord he has 2 weeks to fix it up and housing will be out to reinspect! But it wont be us living there, not doing that

Even if the landlord cleaned the house and made it sterile and spotless, you would not want to move in. The landlord is most likely going to hold a grudge that you contacted the housing office on him, regardless of how justified you were for doing so.

yep...I agreee...so we won't be renting from him lol
