Register Your Pet's ID (ISO) Chip

If you are looking for information on where to get ISO chips for your pet(s), look HERE.

If you brought your pet from The U.S., one of the requirements to enter Germany was that you implant an ISO chip into your pet.
Update: The chip requirement is for anyone owning a pet in Germany, not just those pets entering from the U.S.

The ISO chip is for identification purposes.

If your pet is ever lost, the chip can be used to identify your pet, but it is not going to do you much good unless you have your pet's chip registered.

If you registered your pet in the U.S., that is fine for the U.S., but it won't help you or your pet, here in Europe.

While in Germany, aside from registering your pet's chip info at a base vet clinic, you are going to want to register your pet with TASSO. Registration is free. If you don't read/speak/understand German, just call the number on the website. I have called several times and each time I have spoken to someone who speaks English.

You can also register your dog with Deutschen Haustierregister. If you want to, register with both. It can't hurt, and the price is right (free).

Here is the link to register in English. Thanks to urob for this link that I copied from below. ENGLISH REGISTRATION

If you lose your pet off base, both Tasso and Deutschen Haustierregister will be good to have your pet registered with.

JOFTAA - Thanks for this info! I have been here 6 years and never knew about this. I went to the TASSO site last week, clicked on the english link, registered 3 pets, no problem. Today in the mail I got my registration packet. It is all in German, but simple enough to understand. I have tags for all 3 pets and it was so easy, free was just a bonus!

I am very happy to have helped.

In your packet, you should have received a bank slip that allows you to donate to TASSO. Although I hope to never have to use their service, I sent them a donation. It is definitely worth sending what you feel is a reasonable donation if it is something you feel is worth while.

Thank you for the information. I've just registered our dog and made an online donation as well.

do you know how to deregister your pet from Tasso? we are leaving this country. I found a form that seems you can erase the information, it is 'Tier verstorben melden' (means reporting death of your pet, right?), but I really feel uncomfortable to chose this even if it is just for deregistration.

You can just call them on the phone and they will de-register your pet(s).

They speak English, too! The best of both worlds.
