Default Taking Test before Arriving

I've been hearing about a way to take the test before you arrive in Germany. One way is to be proctored through your education office. Does anyone have a good link to a list of bases that offer this?

I also have heard of a self-proctored test that you can take on your own prior to arriving.

You need to contact your command regarding taking the test prior to arrival. Only the sponsor is able to take the test in advance. Everyone else in your family of driving age must take the test here.

If you are AD, you can take the test before you arrive. Your command should know this. If you are not AD, you take the test when you get here at the base testing center.

We are still waiting to hear about this, too. However, the answer will depend on your branch of service. Are you Army or Air Force?

I will make a call on Monday to the appropriate resource and ask.

We're Air Force, also might not be a bad a idea to ask about the Army as well since I guarantee the question will be asked in the future. Thanks.

Well, I know with AF, there is a new program about to be implemented, if it hasn't already. It will not be for Army, however. The new program will allow you to take a completely computer based test. You'll be able to take the test from CONUS as well as when you arrive here. For Army, you still need to take the test on a .mil computer if you are CONUS.

I took the test on my .mil computer on Thursday. I recommend not watching the videos on the practice site since you will have to watch them again when you take the test. BTW I'm AF.

A lot of questions come from the videos. It can't hurt to watch them in advance and then use them as a review during the test.

Default Driver Test

Redfish, did you take this in CONUS? Also, can you post the website here? Last, how many questions total and how many times can you take the test?

You can take the test as many times as you need to. The problem is that there is a waiting period if you fail the test. The waiting period gets longer as you fail more times.

The thing is, you should not be worried about failing. Why worry about something that really so easy to pass, if you study?

If you follow the instructions at www.usareurpracticetest.com, you will pass. From all of the data we have compiled over the past 18 months, there is a 96% passing rate for people using our sister site. The ones that fail usually don't heed the warning to watch the videos (going against what was said above by Redfish. The videos contain too much information that you will be tested on, to ignore them. And, quite a few of the questions from the videos are not presented to you during the practice test, so it is best to watch the videos more than once. As horribly coma inducing as the videos are, they are important to getting a passing score.

The bottom line is that you are spending too much time worrying about failure, rather than moving toward success. You can, and you will pass.

Get a 100% score at least 3 times in a row taking the complete test in random order. This includes both the multiple choice as well as the signs.

Here's the website to the self-proctored CAC-enabled test for AD Air Force.

https://wwwmil.usafe.af.mil/dlt/Defa...=1&Action=Home

This site should answer all the questions you have.

Don't forget to check this out. You may not have to take the test.

This is wonderful, thank you for the valuable information. Failure will not be an OPTION! lol Do I printout a certificate after passing the test and keep it until I get to Germany?

I am not AD military, so I could not tell you. Hopefully, someone else who has done this, can tell you.

It would seem logical to me that you would print the certificate and bring it with you. I have no access to the website since I don't have a .mil computer, but it would also seem to make sense that when you take the test online, that there should be instructions on what you need to do.

Thanks pgt2k3 for posting the link.

When you finish the test you come to a screen that gives your test score and says you're done. The screed leads me to believe you are entered into a database that they can look up when you in process. They also recommend printing that screen. I did.

I went through the practice tests a couple of times a few weeks ago and watched all the videos. You will have to watch the videos again before getting to the test.

It took a little over an hour to complete. Slow because of bandwidth I guess. When I finished the 75 questions part and tried to go to the 25 sign questions, for some reason I got a blank screen. Recommend hitting back button instead of refresh. I made a mistake and hit refresh. Had to answer the questions again. Hit forward got blank screen again. I then hit back button to get back to my answered test. Clicked on sign-test button again and it worked. Had to go through same routine after sign test before getting to the sweet glory of the congratulations screen.

It's self proctored so you will have to resist the temptation to have the driver's manual open and looking up answers to questions that stump you while you're taking the test.

The whole idea of a self proctored test is scary to me. Not only is the temptation to cheat going to be overwhelming for some people, but the idea that the test can be taken for someone else is pretty bad. I imagine that once the new CBT (Computer Based Testing) is online, and no .mil computer is required, people are going to be cheating heavily. Spouses and friends will take the test for one another. There will be people showing up in Germany having never looked at the material, and having no idea what the street signs or right of way laws are. These people are going to get themselves, and others, injured or killed.

I am not sure what the people who are in charge of the testing are thinking, but there seems to be a huge screw loose.

No proctor. No .mil computer. No way to stop cheating. This is a deadly combination.

Just took the driver test today, I'm AF btw. It was a breeze, just like JOFTAA said, study study study...don't take this lightly. I know of people w/ Masters in Engineering that failed this test, what does that say? Went for it and got a 92%, hellz yea. For AF mbrs, this can be done on .mil PCs only, the site will say that Army mbrs can use the site as practice test and NOT official in any form, I hope they change that and make it even for them as well. After hitting submit, the system will say if you pass or fail. If you pass, you will be instructed to printout a copy for proof to bring to your appointment upon arriving in Germany. If you fail, hmmm...I can't speak for that one, sorry.
