Default Yankee Bar in Landstuhl - Got Ripped Off

I think I got ripped off. I checked out the Yankee Bar in Landstuhl. It looked like it might be ok for lunch.

My first warning sign should have been the place was empty at lunch hour. I was the only person there.

My second warning should have been when the lady told me they only had finger food like spring rolls and chicken wings.

I like chicken wings, and bar food chicken wings are usually good. So, being a moron, I ordered some spring rolls and chicken wings. I got 6 spring rolls and 12 wings. The chickens must have been dwarfs because the wings were really tiny.

I also got two cokes.

There was no menu, so prices were not displayed anywhere. I should have asked about the prices instead of assuming that the bar food would be cheap. Especially since it was only spring rolls and wings.

My bill came to 26 Euro!

Strike this place off of my list of places to go to.

WOW! Now that`s what I call a huge Rip-off.

That is strange. There needs to be a menu with the prices even outside the restaurants/ pubs/ eating & drinking places; not to speak of the menu`s that need to be inside the pub.

If this case would be reported to the responsible person at the "Rathaus" (town hall) I am pretty sure that the owner of this bar would get in a load of trouble if this; or any other unruly stuff would happen again. When cases like this are reported more often for one locality they check his restaurant - and those "restaurant police" isn`t nice like "real" german police.

Contact person for this in Landstuhl can be found here: Markus L., Zimmer (=room) 17

Responsible person for restaurants in Kaiserslautern would be this one here

26€
Thats really rip off. I`ve heard of some other places that work with those tricks, hiding menus, overcharging etc. What those restaurant owners need is a check up by the restaurant regulation authority (or what the translation is).

Hopefully nobody gets into this bar and accidently looses 500gr of roaches that he just bought for feeding his reptiles.

The next time I go by there I will look to see if there is a menu outside and he just missed it.

I don't think it is a restaurant. I am pretty sure it is a bar. Does a bar have to post a menu as well?

Yes, bars and restaurants have to show a menu outside with the prices for their food and drinks. Same regulations for both.

I went by there today. There is no menu anywhere on the outside of the bar. The sign outside says it is a bar. It says sports and music bar. No mention of the word 'restaurant' on the sign.

I think the lady took advantage of him.

I will advise the next person who goes there to just pass it by. Or, be sure to have Vaseline.

restaurant law thing says something like:

- prices have to be declared in an index (=menu)
- menu must always lay on the table or given to the customer before the order and; if demanded; when paying the bill or easily recognizable declared (=printed on the walls)
- besides the entrance there needs to be a menu with prices for the essential part of the offered food (and drinks)
- if alcoholic beverages are served, at least one non alcoholic drink needs to have the same price as the cheapest offered alcoholic drink (converted to 1 liter)

Advise him to make a photo from the entrance, showing that there is no menue outside, and send it to Landstuhl town hall, with a description what had happened. If this happens more often or he does not put a menu on his door on the same day he is told he gets a fine of maybe 1-2-3-4-500€ for first time offenders or it gets a bit more expensive when doing this or other stuff again.

I was in the neighborhood last night. The weather was too nice to stay inside.

I did not see any menu outside. Should I go inside and ask about it?
