We've decided to ship our second vehicle (Rav4). Does anyone have suggestions for companies to use/avoid? So much to take care of before the move in August!

Been shopping around...have already checked all the national providers. Anyone know where I can get rates on renting from a local company? Seems like there used to be a place that rented out heaps for cheap.

Thanks!

Hi! I have a question for anyone who uses a smart phone. Do you use any specific apps to text/call stateside (preferably free)? My husband used a few in Korea (KakaoTalk, Viber, Skype), but all of them were shaky most of the time. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything better out there. Thanks!

New LED Tv with an added bonus! DV3-S Replies: 0

After doing a lot of research on which LED TV I was going to buy, I settled on an LG from Saturn. With a VAT form the price was very competitive to one from the Exchange. I think in the end it was 50 bucks more for the "German" TV. I decided on buying one from a German store because the TVs they had just looked sleeker, were thinner and also included dual voltage (not all are dual voltage or labled as such).

At it turns out. The LG I bought had an added feature I did not even realize existed - DV3-S Tuner. Basically a DV3-S tuner allows you to tune in whatever channels are unencrypted on whatever satellite your dish is pointed towards. I have one dish with three LNBs on it. So I can tune in channels from Astra, Hotbird and EuroSat. I had to learn about this feature the hard way. I had a tech come to the house to troubleshoot at 50 Euros, but worth it in the end. To my amazement he told me about the DV3-S tuner and that I just needed to attach the satellite dish directly to the TV without the receiver box. I could not believe it. I figured he must not know what he's talking about. About 10 minutes of auto tuning, I had all the free channels from the 3 satellites my dish was pointed to. All the free Sky channels, all the free Central and Former Eastern Bloc channels and even free channels from the Middle East. Even the encrypted channels came though, but without a card the channels remain encrypted. Even AFN showed up on the channel list, but just can't unlock them as they do

Speed Limits in Germany Replies: 0

One thing you really need to watch out for while driving in Germany is the speed limit signs. Even if you are a law abiding citizen, who never speeds, there is a fairly good chance that you will be caught speeding.

Here are some of my experiences while driving in Germany.

1. I got a ticket for driving 73km in a 70km zone. This comes to less than 2mph over the limit, and resulted in a 10€ fine that arrived in the mail.

2. While driving to Garmisch, I was driving on the autobahn. The speed limit was 130km. There was a speed limit change from 130km to 100km, which was no problem, but then within a stone throw there was another speed limit change from 100km to 60km. I was in the process of braking to slow down, but did not wish to have the back end of my car crashed into, so I did so at a reasonable pace. I got flashed for going over 60km.

3. This one is my favorite. Take a close look at the speed limit signs as you pass them. I discovered, as many before me have, that the speed limit signs are on motorized poles. The speed limit signs can be turned in such a way as to display another speed limit. So, everyday for a month you will drive by the same sign and it will show a speed limit of 100km, and suddenly one day you are not paying such close attention and the sign will have been turned to show a speed limit of 80km. And, a portable speed camera will be setup to take your portrait.

I understand the speed limit signs that are computerized and digital th

Does anyone know where we can set up a proctored exam with stateside colleges? I called the Ramstein Education office and they don't offer college testing. Would appreciate any help you can give me.
