We are seeing the available places on-base diminish for quick lunch eating (unless you want to battle parking at the KMCC and then stand in line). First, Popeye's closed, and now Lucky's (which does have VERY good doners) is leaving. So, for anyone who has heard (and please say if it is rumor or you KNOW):

- Will anything take the place of Popeye's in that building over by the SouthSide gym?

- What will take the place of Lucky's (in the Southside building that has Anthony's and Robin Hood)?

- I've heard RUMORS that Burger King lost the AAFES contract for worldwide bases (Army and AF) and that Wendy's won the contract? Anyone else hear this? If so, is there a timeline for the changeover?

First, Popeye's closed, and now Lucky's (which does have VERY good doners) is leaving. So, for anyone who has heard (and please say if it is rumor or you KNOW): I KNOW.

- Will anything take the place of Popeye's in that building over by the SouthSide gym? NO. That building has been condemned and is awaiting demolition. (The life use was 10 years for the building however, it was in use for almost 20 years or just a tad over that.) Popeyes will move into the KMCC where Baskin Robins is currently. (Five to nine months down the line though.) Baskin Robins will move to where Franks' Franks is now. Franks' Franks will fade into the night.

- What will take the place of Lucky's (in the Southside building that has Anthony's and Robin Hood)? SUBWAY.

- I've heard RUMORS that Burger King lost the AAFES contract for worldwide bases (Army and AF) and that Wendy's won the contract? Anyone else hear this? If so, is there a timeline for the changeover? RUMOR! BK is not going anywhere.

There are many other places to eat on Ramstein. The Pizza Gallerie and the Chinese place in the CAC; the Deutsches Haus; the German Katine on the southside (behind the credit union); and the O'Club. There are also roving food vendors (AAFES) which change every two weeks (Italian/Chinese/Doener). The commissary also has pre-made and made to order sandwiches and wraps as well as a make your own salad bar. Then of course there is Chili's, J.R. Rockers, Ronny's Sports Bar (KMCC), the Hofbrau Haus, the Wasgau Bakery (KMCC), the British Cafe, the Heat and Eat in the Northside and Southside Shoppettes, Two Subways (AMC Terminal and the Northside Express/Shoppette) the bowling alley snack bar and as always, the dining hall. Not sure if they serve food at the Canadian Club. Definitely plenty of places to eat on base depending on your taste and schedule.

That BK/Wendy's rumor is kind of like an old email rumor. Somehow it keeps on making its rounds.

Just curious. Why do you have to eat on RAB for something fast? I have seen some pretty long lines at Popeye's (although I don't dare say anything bad about Popeye's :heh:), BK, and the rest.

If you want a fast meal, that is actually healthy, try Thai-Thai Orchidee (http://www.everythingkmc.com/showthread.php?t=13687) in Ramstein. Just don't go during rush hour and you can be in and out in under 30 minutes. The food is very good, and fresh. The service can be grouchy unless you get to know the short lady who works there. If you get her to crack a smile, you win the prize!

Why would you WANT to eat on base at any of those places? The only place worth going is the Deutsches Haus. But a membership for 18 euro for the year.

Or eat bad American food on base.

I don't really WANT to eat at those places, but sometimes people have no time to go off base or deal with the long wait times (typically) at the Deutches Haus. Thai-Thai may be 30 mins (fast), but then add at least 10 mins travel each way, and you are approaching an hour. Sometimes I have only 30 mins or so total.

BTW, I went to a Commander's Call recently (86th Wing/CC), who said that the Wendy's to Ramstein was true and he said "in 2013." I'll believe it when I see the sign go up (and the long lines snaking around the roads!).

Wendy's tried and failed, before. I wonder, if this is true, what makes them think it will work this time? Are you talking about the Wendy's being on base, as in AAFES? Burger King would never allow this in our lifetime. If you look at the Avis car rental place on PariserStr across from Vogelweh, that used to be Wendy's. Cars rent better than burgers sold at that location.

I just said to my wife over the weekend that I could use some nice Wendy's fries about now...

I don't know when you had the Wendy's fries last, but they have changed over the past couple of years. They are a thicker cut, served with sea salt, and are unfortunately very addictive.

Probably in July. So yeah, you understand why I'd go for some now.

Okay, maybe because I am from the South and raised poor...but I love getting a bratwurst mit brotchen for 2.50 Euro...what's wrong with that?

There is another Thai Restaurant, at the Ramstein-Miesenbach exit (where the Shell gas/restuarant is), go towards Landstuhl, at the red light (where you see the stack of logs at the corner), take a right, go around the traffic circle, take the 3rd exit, is a Thai Restaurant...I believe it has excellent Thai food!!! (But my taste buds is different from yours!):thumbsup4::thumbsup4::thumbsup4::thumbsup4 :

One of two things happened during your commander's call attendance. Either you misunderstood the speaker or you were dreaming about what was said. :)

I will say it one last time.....Wendy's is NOT coming to Ramstein and you can take that to the bank! It ain't happenin' in this lifetime. The chances are greater that the Mayan's prediction will come true before Wendy's sets up shop somewhere in the KMCC.

The rumor happens on an annual basis. Maybe it is a sign that AAFES should listen to what their customers want.

:roflmao:

Maybe it is a sign that AAFES should listen to what their customers want.

That's a foreign concept for them.

I realize getting stuff overseas has to be somewhat difficult, but how many times have you seen an empty spot for the item you want for months on end, but there are loads and loads of a similar product right next to it. I have worked in retail a time or two. I know the mistakes that can happen, but it only takes a grain of common sense to fix it.

Sorry, that was off subject.
