I had a quick question since we are getting ready to leave tonight. Since my sponsor is away and school and my replacement sponsor is a little lacking in the help department. I have one last question that has been bugging me for right now.
What is the expected time line between arrival, lets call that day 0 since nothing useful can really be accomplished on that day, and being able to move into a house? Lets assume that I found a place on AHRN that we like prior to arrival. What would be the shortest amount of time between arriving and being able move in usually? I am expecting not being able to even look at houses until day 3 or 4, would this be accurate? Or should I be able to hit the ground running and be able to look right away?
Thank you in advance.

Once we found the house we wanted to move into, we were able to move in within a week. But, this really will depend on how busy things are. You're going to need loaner furniture before yours arrives, so that is going to be a factor.
It is really hard to give you an estimate, but going out on a limb, I'd say a week to ten days.
When we arrived, my wife actually went to work that day. I started looking for houses the following morning.
Good luck!

As far as furniture, all our household goods are already in Germany... so it would probably be easier for us just arrange delivery of that than for delivery of loaner furniture.
So my guess of about a week is a pretty good idea then. We already have one that is on top of our list, its just a matter of getting out to see it and being able to sign the lease.
Thank you for the answer though, that will give us a better idea of what to expect.

If your furniture is here, your time constraint is more about furniture delivery than anything else. You can sign the lease and not move in, but your allowance will stop once the lease is signed, as you probably already know.
So, see the house, sign the lease if you like it, and hope like hell that your furniture can be delivered in a timely manner.

The big thing is finding a place to live! You may find that easy or hard depending on how many folks are looking also. There were several places we had appointments to look at, only to find out the rented it our before we showed. Once you find a place, call TMO to find out the earliest date your HHG can be delivered and start your lease that day. You can sign the lease and have it approved by housing for a move in date a week or two out.
We arrived in the middle of PCS season, so our delivery date was almost two weeks after we called TMO. We signed our lease to move in on the day our stuff was delivered and just stayed in our Temporary Lodging. If you run out of TLA before getting your stuff delivered, you might have to ask for FMO loan furniture or an extension of your TLA benefits. Also, it is possible that you may find a nice place, but it hasn't been vacated yet by the previous renters and may have to wait for them to leave.
