Hi Guys..

We lived on Ramstein back before the Wall fell. Its been so long ago, but you always remember the food, right? We used to stop in Kaiserslautern and pick up this fresh sweet bread.. and I cannot remember what it was called. It was baked in a rectangular loaf, and it had a filling of walnuts rolled in it. Someone suggested a stollen to me, but that is more like a danish. This was a large and airy bread... Does anyone remember what its called? I'd love to find a recipe, or someone here in the States that makes it.

Thank you.

back before the Wall fellYeah, the good old times.

If I had a wish, I would want to have the wall again, but 50 meters higher and some kilometers wider. :(

It is even hard to find some bread that does not taste like pigswill nowadays.

I`ll guess your bread was made in an old style family bakery. These are long gone. Bread is made in factorys nowadays.

The thing is that there are so many recipes to bake bread... one I found with walnut is an austrian-hungarian sweet bread (=Süßbrot mit Walnüssen) or maybe "Weissbrot mit Walnüssen" (http://www.google.de/#hl=de&&sa=X&ei=03P9TOXxG9Co8QPco-3zCw&ved=0CCgQBSgA&q=wei%C3%9Fbrot+mit+waln%C3%BCssen&spell=1&fp=1e5116a3786f19ef)

Chefkoch.de (=head cook) lists 94 bread recipes with walnuts (http://www.chefkoch.de/rs/s0/brot+walnuss/Rezepte.html) ;)

someone here in the States that makes itLook for a bakery with german family names, if you find one, you sure will get way better bread than we get in germany today.

:yay:

Edit:

If you need a translation, post it here and I`ll see what I can do ;)

Are you looking for monkey bread (http://www.everythingkmc.com/showthread.php?t=13407)? This recipe calls for pecans, but I know a few people who use walnuts, instead.
