Ready or not, here it comes, Christmas! And are you in for a treat. You are living smack
dab in the middle of some of the most beautiful, "Christmas-y" scenery in the world. And
the towns that have the most beautiful decorations surround you too. My pick for the best
place to be at Christmas would probably be Nürnberg, followed by Munich, and Stuttgart.
and Freiburg, or maybe Strasbourg, or Rheims (if you want to be sure they don't run out
of champagne).
The top 20 best Christmas (or Weihnachts Markt) towns in Germany would have to include:
Staufen-im-Breisgau (in the Black Forest), Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber (about half-way
between Heidelberg and Nürnberg), Aachen, Cologne, Dresden, and the beautiful Christmas
markets of: Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem, Coblenz, Rüdesheim, Mainz, Worms, Speyer and
Ahrweiler.
And there are many more, all around you in the area, from Grindelwald in Switzerland, to
Innsbruck in Austria. And, although it's very little, Schladming in Aurstria goes on the list
because of their one-horse open sleighs (with real jingle-bells).
