1. Getting a flu vaccine is the single best way to protect against the flu.
Flu vaccines are available now for active duty members. Squadron flu POCs,
please contact SSgt Renea McCoy to schedule a squadron flu visit in October.
Vaccines will be available for dependents at several locations including Oct
14 from 1600-1900 at the KMCC and October 19-21 from 0900-1800 at the
Southside Gym. Flu vaccines will also be administered for school aged
children on 15 Oct at Ramstein HS from 1400-1800, 18 Oct at Sembach
Elementary/Middle from 1430-1730, 19 Oct at Landstuhl Elementary/Middle from
1400-1730, and 22 Oct at K-town Middle/HS from 1400-1800.

2. While everyone should get a flu vaccine each flu season, it's especially
important that the following groups get vaccinated either because they are
at high risk of having serious flu-related complications or because they
live with or care for people at high risk for developing flu-related
complications:

a. Pregnant women

b. Children younger than 5, but especially children younger than 2 years
old

c. People 50 years of age and older

d. People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions (such as
Asthma, Cancer, Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease or those individuals with decreased immune function)

e. People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications
from flu, including:

i. Health care workers

ii. Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications
from the flu

iii. Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less
than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be
vaccinated)

3. For more information, please visit www.cdc.gov/flu
or call 86th Medical Group Immunizations at

4. Please ensure widest dissemination. Active duty members must ensure
their family members are informed.
