This is a bit off topic considering this is not about coming to Kaiserslautern, Germany. But, I picked up this info at RU (http://www.ramsteinunderground.com/topic.jsp?topicId=11568971). This is not confirmed by this site.
Hawaii is rabies-free. Hawaii's quarantine law is designed to protect residents and pets from potentially serious health problems associated with the introduction and spread of rabies. All dogs and cats, regardless of age (puppies and kittens included) or purpose, must comply with Hawaii’s dog and cat import requirements.
Chapter 4-29 Hawaii Administrative Rules, governs the importation of dogs, cats and other carnivores into Hawaii. This law states that dogs and cats meeting specific pre- and post-arrival requirements may qualify for 5-day–or-less quarantine program, which has a provision for direct release at Honolulu International Airport after inspection.
Here is the checklist for the 5 day or less quarantine.

The following is also from RU (http://www.ramsteinunderground.com/topic.jsp?topicId=11568971), and has not been confirmed by this site.
We came from there with pets and also moved there with pets. Yes, there is a quarantine and also a direct release from the airport. The only way you can avoid the quarantine is to go in prepared with the proper blood work/paperwork. It is confusing and lots of jumping through hoops, but it can be done. We did this from Europe once and the real issue was overnighting the blood samples to Texas from Europe. When we moved there, only 2 veterinary labs on the mainland were approved to clear the blood for quarantine purposes. Plan in advance, and make sure that you find an overnighting source that will accept blood samples for shipment/transit, because the blood must make the journey essentially overnight for a valid sample. Do read on the Hawaii government websites about the quarantine options because they range from airport release, 5-day, 30-day up to 120 day if you don't have any blood work. Another tid bit...when you book flights, the quarantine station is only open until about 8pm. If your flight arrives later your pet must stay overnight and be picked up the following morning. An additional tidbit of information. Once you arrive to Hawaii make sure that you keep your bloodwork up to date...this way your animals can be considered for the airport release for the duration of your tour of duty in the islands. They can island hop as well.
You will love Hawaii. Congratulations on getting such a sweet assignment. You will LOVE it!
Another thing...there is an MWR kennel that charges nominal fees for boarding your animals (while you househunt). http://www.mwrarmyhawaii.com/recreation-and-leisure/fmwr-pet-kennels
Also, the Navy lodge on Ford Island offers pet TLA. The Air Force lodge on Hickam does not offer this.
