New Orleans, Louisiana (CNN) -- The estimated amount of oil leaking from a sunken rig in the Gulf of Mexico has increased to as much as 5,000 barrels a day -- five times more than what was originally believed, a Coast Guard official said.

This is an IMMENSE tragedy for the environment... I guess I take it even more personal than most because I used to live in Louisiana...

Aside from the obvious, what I find really bad is that the EPA and other organizations took so long to assess the problem.
A lot of preventive steps could have been taken days ago.
And, if you have not figured it out yet, this will be yet another excuse for gasoline prices to go absolutely ape sh!t.

Just in time for Summer gas price increases also. I hope they work on containing and cleaning up the spill soon.
